Best of Friends

Best of Friends

I’m headed to the beach next week to spend time with some high school friends and started thinking that it’s been 33 years since we have graduated from high school. That’s crazy! It’s been 33 years and within a few seconds of being together, it will feel like it was yesterday. I love getting together with old friends and within seconds feeling like we have never been apart. We just “get” each other. We live in different parts of the country with different lives but our friendship has stood the test of time. We have been through jobs, weddings, children, aging parents and so many family experiences. I think everyone needs a good friend. What makes a good friend? I can give a list like loyalty, faithfulness and integrity which are all factors but I have known many with these attributes that I wouldn’t call “friend.” Proverbs 27:17 states, “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” True friends sharpen each other. They “get” each other and hold each other accountable. They have each others back. They say the hard things that usually only family members can say to each other. It’s the kind of friend that will tell you when you’ve crossed the line. You know, the one who knows what you’re thinking without you saying a word. Friends are worth the investment. Everyone needs at least one. Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are!
Choose wisely,
