15 Jan Day 11 – Endurance For The Journey
Endurance for the Journey
By Aaron White
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
James 1:2-4 NLT
Today I woke up thinking about how stressful the holidays can be for some people. Many times the pressure and stress can zap the joy out of this festive season. Last week, a lady in our church had some car trouble and took her car in to be repaired. When she received the bill from fixing the car, it was $900. When she told me, she had tears in her eyes. James 1 warned us, but troubles do come our way, even during the holidays. Amazingly, some families in the church stepped up and paid for her car to be fixed, but even if they hadn’t, my advice would have been the same: Count it all joy. When your faith is tested, your endurance for the journey grows!
Everyone has endurance, but it needs to grow and this happens when our faith is tested. Many times, people get caught up on the problem more than trusting God. Focusing on the problem can compound it. Have you ever considered the alternative option that comes with a hard situation? You have the chance to consider it an opportunity for great joy! We know that the joy of the Lord is strength to us.
The next time trouble tries to come your way, trust God. Counting it joy and putting your faith to work causes the endurance in you to be activated and fully developed, making you perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Doesn’t that sound great? In order to ultimately reach that perfect and complete stage, you must activate your endurance and let it grow.
