09 Sep Eliminate Your Limitations
2 Corinthians 6:12. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
New believers spend a lot of time on getting free of addictions. The crucifixion of the big three; drugs, sex and alcohol have been targets of Christians for years. The goal became to get free from the big three. God has certainly set us free from addictions. Once we live above the power of addiction is there true freedom?
Our life is limited by what we are affectionate toward. The things that consume our thought life, steal small pieces of time, and erode our potential. Affection is more elusive than addiction because we don’t see it as a threat, rather as a friend, a security blanket, something that brings comfort (outside of God). These things can take the place of what God wants to be in our lives. The foundation of strength, peace and joy.
Something that you are affectionate toward may be politically correct; such as food, TV, social media or sports. They may not have power to control your life, but they become the place of escape..
God has given us all things richly to enjoy. He likes us to find pleasure in what he has given us. What limits our lives is when we seek those things for refuge rather than God. Take time to identify and eliminate unhealthy affections for these limit your life.
