31 Dec Finding Rest
Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.
As Americans we look to so may things for rest, having been offered anything and everything that could potentially provide relief from a stressful life.
When we are tired, or stressed and just want some relief from the pressures of the day, we turn to social media, sports, TV, food, video games, travel, or many other things that we hope will bring fulfillment.
These other things aren’t bad, unless we see them as our source for relief. It’s like consuming junk food when your body is hungry for nutrients. Our “soul food” is the word, and Jesus is the great Physician. True rest and restoration is found only in our relationship with Him.
All of your Fathers promises are gifts, which means you receive them like a present, you do not earn them like a paycheck. You receive from the Father not based on how good you are, rather by simply trusting Him.
My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
– Proverbs 4:20-22
When you find yourself depleted it simply means you are spiritually hungry. Spend time in the word and prayer throughout the day to keep yourself rested and ready to overcome the battles of life.
