21 Aug A Day In New York City
“New York, New York–it’s a wonderful town!” On Saturday, August 17th, the women of Guts Church found out just how wonderful the City That Never Sleeps can be at this year’s over-the-top Guts Girls in the City brunch. Thousands of women took a bite out of the Big Apple as they visited street vendors in some of NYC’s best neighborhoods–hot dogs in Central Park, Polar Ice in the Fashion District, spring rolls in Chinatown & pretzels in Little Italy. For the ultimate sweet treat, guests were treated to candy courtesy of New York’s favorite, Dylan’s Candy Bar, complete with candy counter girls and all new NYC-approved Guts Girls merchandise.
Scenes from the most beloved Broadway musicals filled room with song & dance routines as a tribute to one of the things we love most about New York–the theater. The musical fun continued with live acts fit for a show at Radio City Music Hall; a STOMP routine kicked off the morning with a bang, followed by a Tony Award-worthy performance of “It’s A Hard Knock Life” from our Guts Kids as Little Orphan Annie & her friends. A musical crooner ‘Frank Sinatra’ even made an appearance & dazzled us with renditions of Fly Me to the Moon and, of course, New York, New York. The ultimate surprise came when Pastor Sandy took the stage and was interrupted by a Flash Mob for the books. The production was met with rollicking applause and was a highlight of the day.
Guest speaker Lisa Bevere shared a powerful word and timely insight as she encouraged women to use the Word of God as a weapon against attacks on our identity and come to an understanding of the importance of knowing who we truly are.
Pastor Sandy continues to raise the bar as the quintessential hostess; this year’s event was no exception and far exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to see where her vision takes us next year!
Thank you for joining us on a tour of the Empire State!
