If There’s One Thing I Know……..

If There’s One Thing I Know……..

My mom used to use this phrase throughout my life and add her quotes or thoughts to help prepare me for life. My mom passed away two years ago but these life lessons will be with me forever. She used phrases like, “If there’s one thing I know, you teach people how to treat you. If there’s one thing I know, if you’re from the South, you never wear white after Labor Day.” I laugh at so many of them. I started a series on, “If there’s One Thing I Know,” and it really has made me think of what’s important in my life. My relationship with the Lord, my husband, children, friends and our church were the easy and obvious things to come up with. One that kept coming to my mind was, if there’s one thing I know….it’s time to grow up. Everyone has made their 2012 resolutions that probably sound very familiar to the ones made in 2011. Everyone wants to lose weight, get healthy, work on their relationships and get out of debt. What makes these resolutions a reality? It’s simple…..doing it! It takes God’s Word and discipline. It takes waking up every day with a clean slate because His mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 22-23 says, Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” It takes submitting ourselves to Jesus and His word. It takes….well I have to say it, Guts. It’s time to GROW UP! No excuses. Grow up and take responsibility for your life. Let’s make this year the year we grow up. God isn’t going to force us to work out, eat healthy, or love people. He’s given us the tools, His Word. Now, let’s grow up and use them.

Looking forward and never looking behind,
