17 Mar Let God Take Care of Today
It’s easy to throw stones at the Israelites. Why in the world did it take them 40 years to make an 11 day journey? How could they mistrust God when He provided cloud cover by day, fire by night, water from the rock and daily manna! It seems impossible to miss the provision and love of God for them. But they did…
There were two negative influences that undermined their faith.
- They could not reach safety from where they were. Imagine being in the middle of a desert, miles from any tangible security! It was not within their power to save themselves, therefore they had to depend on God. Our nature resists dependence on that which we cannot see.
- They worried about tomorrow, which is why they tried to save up the manna. Although God had provided for today, where was their assurance that He would not turn His back on them tomorrow?
And so they grumbled and complained. Fear spread form 10 spies like wildfire through their camp. Jesus addressed this for new believers when he said:
Matthew 6:31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Worry distracts from purpose. Do not let circumstance undermine your confidence in God’s willingness or ability to meet your needs today! His grace is sufficient to meet your needs today. When we extend our trust to Him, by holding fast our confidence, He answers with provision.
Confidence is contagious too! Find your confidence in the word, stir up the gifts inside you, then ignite those around you today to do something great for the Kingdom. Let God take care of your today.
