Paid In Advance

Paid In Advance

Eric English

I don’t think any of us enjoy paying bills.  I enjoy even less the bills that I pay in advance.  It seems absurd to pay for something you haven’t even used yet.  Insurance is almost always paid a month in advance.  You are insured for only the period of time that has been paid for.
But God paid in advance for your eternity.  Through the death and resurrection Jesus, paid your sin debts, and insured you against an eternity of separation from the Father.
Many people believe that their forgiveness only extends to their next sin, then must be invoked again and again as sin happens.  But this simply isn’t true, your sin debt has been “paid in advance” and for eternity.
Hebrews 10:12

But this Man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God.

Lets just look at a few things from this single verse:
How many sacrifices did Jesus offer?  One.
Was the sin that is covered singular or plural?  It was plural, sins.
How long does the sacrifice last for?  Forever!
Hebrews 10:14

For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Understand this, it was His one offering that has already perfected you forever!  You may not look perfect to yourself, your friends or the world, but to God you look perfect and have been made perfect already, through the blood of Christ.
Hebrews 10:17

Then He adds, their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more.

What a great gift!  God is not remembering your sins, for they have been paid.  It is only the Devil that remembers and reminds us of our sins, getting the focus off of the finished work of Christ and onto your flaws and failures.  Listen to what the Father has said about you:
Hebrews 10:18

Now where there is remission of these, there is no more offering for sin.

There is no more offering because your debt was “paid in advance”!  There is no more record, There is no more penalty.  You owe God nothing.
