The Church Jesus is Building | Pastor Bill Scheer
What if Christianity isn't about rules, but about relationship?
In this message, Pastor Bill continues the series by moving from commitment to covenant, revealing how covenant with God changes your identity, gives you purpose, and empowers you to build the life God designed for you.
Discover the benefits of living in covenant, why God is a covenant-keeping God, and how the local church is His strategy for reaching the world. This message will challenge you to stop consuming and start building.
The Relationship That Changes Everything
The Bible isn’t the story of religion. It’s the story of covenant.
• The Covenant gives us our identity and power.
• The Great Commission gives us our purpose.
• Everything Jesus accomplished points us to a New and Better Covenant.
• Whatever the question is, the answer is yes.
2 Corinthians 1:20
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”
1. Covenant Changes Your Identity
• This covenant doesn’t just improve your life, it changes your identity.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2. Covenant Has Benefits
Psalm 103:2-5
“2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
• His presence.
• His peace.
• His promises.
• His provision.
• His authority.
3. Covenant Has Responsibilities
Deuteronomy 28:1-2
“1 Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
• The only thing in God’s Word that is unconditional is His love. Everything else carries covenant responsibilities and conditions.
• Standing.
• Believing.
• Abiding.
• Praying.
• Continuing.
• Making disciples.
James 1:22
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
4. Covenant Answers Life’s Greatest Question
• Whose report will you believe?
• Every day we decide…Will we trust what we see or what God has spoken?
5. Covenant Produces Builders
• People in covenant don’t consume.
• They build.
• They gather.
• They connect.
• They make disciples.
• They build the Church Jesus is building.
• God has kept His covenant.
• Jesus established the New Covenant.
• The Holy Spirit empowers us to live the covenant.
• Now it’s time to build the house, the church.
